DIVINE Word University crowned the Mr and Miss DWU at the 2022 pageant on Saturday 23rd July 2022, with the theme, “Run to win in glitter and gold.”

Jamaine Elisha Selaming, first year in the Department of Health Management and representing the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, was crowned Mr DWU.

The 18-year-old who hails from East New Britain displayed confidence and was outstanding in his presentations.

Following the crowning of Mr DWU, 19-year-old Kappa Gaoma, first year in the Department of Communication Arts, representing the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences was crowned Miss DWU.

Head judge Mr Bernard Yegiora laid out rules before the main event. He emphasized that contestants would be judged using certain criteria.

“Students would be judged by their faculty wear, confidence, personality, stage presence, their regional attire, and clarity,” said Mr Yegiora.

DWU female Student Representative Council (SRC) Vise President Tema Elliot said the event is held annually to help support the DWU community.

She said the purpose of this year’s pageant was to raise funds to carry out SRC projects and sponsor the Mr and Miss DWU to contest for the Madang Pageant.

“The funds will be used to build a laundromart for the students, a tucker shop inside DWU’s Modilon Campus and also help renovate the old DWU chapel,” said Miss Elliot.

Miss Elliot thanked business houses for their continuous support.

Present at the event were representatives from Madang Resort, Madang Rotary Club, Relaxo Niugini Binatang, other business houses and agencies, DWU Management, staff and all those who showed moral and financial support.

Various paintings, meri blouses and baskets were among the many items that were auctioned during the event to raise funds for this great cause.
